Membership

Membership of ASHRR is based principally on organisations rather than individuals. However, the focus is on those larger private and public sector organisations (or large divisions within those organisations) with senior HR practitioners playing strategic roles in the overall management and direction of the firm. Membership is by invitation only. It is anticipated that over time total membership will be limited to the key HR practitioners in 60 or so leading Australian organisations.

The annual membership subscription is currently set at $2,200 per member organisation including GST and renewals are based on a rolling 12 month subscription period from the date subscriptions are paid rather than a calendar year subscription period. Income from subscriptions is used to meet the administration costs of ASHRR including the costs of regular workshops for up to 2 nominees per member organisation, an annual conference and the costs of research into emerging HR issues as identified by the members.

The membership subscription is paid into a special interest bearing account within the School of Business, University of Sydney. This ensures that the funds can only be utilised for approved ASHRR purposes and also ensures the tax-exempt status of member contributions.

Administrative and research support is provided by ACIRRT, University of Sydney. By building on an established research capacity ASHRR can function efficiently and quickly on substantive issues, free from the burden of setting up new administrative and research structures.

Member organisations nominate two senior HR practitioners to participate in ASHRR activities. Two points of contact are seen as being important. This maximises the chances of at least one person in the organisation participating in ASHRR activities. It also helps maintain continuity of organisational membership when one of the designated contacts is re-located within the organisation or accepts a role within another employer.

Although not previously activated, the August 2002 meeting of the Executive Committee decided to extend invitations to senior level HR practitioners on a selective basis to join ASHRR under the Associate Member (individuals not organisations) category of our Constitution and Rules. Membership in this category will be limited in numbers and the annual membership subscription is 10% of Ordinary Membership - $220 incl. GST. Rolling annual membership renewals also apply to this category of membership.
